Test hardware Mid-2010 mac without restart?

Hello, I would like to know if there's a way to check all components of my macbook's hardware. I am aware there is a hardware test if you hold D when rebooting, however if I shut down my macbook it has problems booting up and doesn't respond to any commands, so I would like to avoid having to turn the laptop off. I'm trying to see if any part of this laptop is failing or has something wrong. Thank you!
